Multiple Sclerosis is a debilitating autoimmune disease which attacks the central nervous system.

What does that mean? Who does it affect? What can we do about it?

MS attacks the nerve cells damaging them.  Once damaged nerves are unable to trigger; when a nerve cannot trigger information cannot be sent around the body.

MS can cause numerous symptoms ranging from vision problems, muscle spasms and weakness, coordination and balance issues, speech problems, muscle pain, depression to name a few.  I was once made this comparison about living with MS, put socks on your hands, put glasses on wrapped in tape, tie weights on your limbs just to start.

MS affects all ages from childe to elderly and people who battle MS in their daily lives need your support as much as they need their own strength.

There are treatments for MS but they are not cures.  Those suffering from acute relapses often require high doses delivered intravenously.  They may require shots as often as daily.  These shots leave depressions in the skin from frequently damaging the skin cells around the injection site.

This is just a brief introduction to what MS is, how it affects those who fight it and what they have to go through.  They don’t need to stand alone though.  I took up cycling this year specifically to do the MS Rona Rides.

I have a goal of raising $5000 for the MS Society.  This money is used for research into treatments and more importantly, research into a cure.  Together we can be a beacon of light on the horizon.
